Last night I flipped the switch to kill FeedBurner as the distributor for the Mac Power Users RSS feed. When David and I started Mac Power Users more than 4 years ago, FeedBurner made a lot of sense. It gave us additional control over our feed and flexibility. FeedBurner has gone through changes, it's been taken over by Google and there have been some problems. The rumors are constant that Google is going to kill off the FeedBurner service just like they have so many projects before it. In retrospect, we should have moved away from FeedBurner when we moved to 5by5, but hindsight is 20/20.
A couple of months ago we reached a tipping point when our feed size grew above that which FeedBurner would support and the show stopped flowing. It was maddening and as a temporary fix we've truncated our feed to only the last 100 shows while we prepped for the move. Today, we made it.
So, what does that mean for the podcast listener? Hopefully nothing. We've setup permanent redirection to our new feed and so long as you check in with us in the next 30 days and have a "modern" podcatcher everything should keep flowing as normal. The most common complaint is you may notice some shows you've previously downloaded show up as new again. Unfortunately, nothing we can do about that. However, if for whatever reason Mac Power Users stops flowing, all you have to do is resubscribe. Our new feed address and iTunes link is below.
Our apologies for any inconvenience. Thanks for listening.
