App Camp for Girls is one of my favorite projects founded by my friend Jean Mac Donald. App Camp’s mission is to encourage girls to pursue App development as a career by teaching them how to make iPhone Apps in a fun, creative summer camp program under the mentorship of women developers. These girls have accomplished amazing things already, check out the App Camp Quiz Compendium, which topped the charts as the #1 Paid Entertainment App on iTunes.
Today App Camp launches version 3.0 along with a new Indiegogo fundraising campaign. Their goal is to raise $100,000 through crowdfunding. The group has generous corporate and private donors in place who have agreed to double the first $100,000 of the crowdfunding bring in up to $300,000. These funds will be used to bring the program to more girls in additional locations.
How We Can Help
The Mac Power Users community has always been a great supporter of App Camp, but this year we want to do more. David and I are encouraging our audience to donate to App Camp 3.0 and will personally match the first $1,000 of your donations. We hope to have a Mac Power Users sponsored team at one of their camp locations this summer.
- Donate to the App Camp Indiegogo campaign as you normally would, including choosing from the available perks.
- Email a copy of your donation receipt receipt (feel free to redact any personal information but leave the amount) to firstname.lastname@example.org with the words “App Camp 3.0” (no quotes) in the subject line.
Jean will be our guest on MPU in early June to give us an update on her progress (and the progress of funding team MPU) as well as talk about the workflows and challenges with creating a non-profit and running a summer camp for kids.
We hope you’ll join us in supporting this worthy cause.
