Jean MacDonald is a good friend. A couple years ago at Macworld|iWorld we were standing in the bathroom (yes) and I commented the one advantage of being women attending a tech conference is there was never a line in the ladies room. We laughed, but we both knew it was a little sad. Jean's actually set out to do something about the state of women in technology by working to inspire girls to take an interest in App development.
App Camp For Girls is a place where girls can put their creative power to work, concepting and building apps, while learning more about the business of software and being inspired by women who are professional software developers. The idea being that when girls see how much fun and creative App development can be they'll be more likely to further their education and pursue careers in software development and technology.
Today, App Camp for Girls launches their fundraising campaign on Indiegogo. Their goal is to raise at least $50,000 to fund their 2013 summer camps and the next 12 months of expenses as they build a national non-profit organization.
Check out the App Camp For Girls website for more information about the organization and their mission, upcoming camps and opportunities to support this worthy cause. We had the opportunity to chat with Jean on a previous episode of Mac Power Users where she discussed learning to become an App developer and App Camp for Girls.
