With Macworld/iWorld on “hiatus” I know many of us are looking for a way to meet up with our friends in the Apple community. As it turns out, the community has really stepped up and there are a number of options this sunner. Several of my friends will be attending WWDC in a couple of weeks. (Sadly, my schedule does not permit me to attend.) Even if you couldn’t score a ticket to the conference itself there are a number of alternative events happening at the same time that are worthy of your consideration. Here are a few:
AltConf is a community-driven event, assembled to serve developers and a product driven community. The conference is held in downtown San Francisco at the AMC Metreon. There’s a great speaker lineup for AltConf this year including my pal, David Sparks.
Layers is a new conference by Jessie Chair and Elaine Pow centered around iOS and Mac design held June 8–10 at Bespoke on Market Street. Speakers include Serenity Caldwell, John Gruber, Adam Lisagor, Jonathan Mann, Christa Mrgan, Mike Monterio and more.
If you’re in San Francisco during WWDC one of my favorite organizations, App Camp For Girls, is holding a fundraiser and happy hour Wednesday, June 10, 2015 from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the 2nd Street Gallery, hosted by WWDCGirls. All the proceeds from ticket sales go towards App Camp For Girls. Kudos to Marco, Casey and John of the Accidental Tech Podcast for sponsoring the event. You can purchase tickets and make a donation here.
If you’re in the Midwest, you should consider Macstock Conference and Expo on June 20, 2015 from 8:00 to 3:00 PM that will be held at McHenry County College just outside of Woodstock, IL. Speakers include Dave Hamilton, Julie Kuehl, Allison Sheridan, Guy Serle, and Tim Robertson. Following the conference, Barry Fulk (the nicest guy in the world) will be hosting the Midwest Mac BBQ, a less formal gathering at his home in the Chicago area.
