When I was growing up there weren’t many strong female characters in Science Fiction. Before Rey and Kathryn Janeway, there was Princess Leia, brought to life by Carrie Fisher.
Princess Leia taught an entire generation of girls and young women that you could be a princess and a rebel. She was smart, witty, powerful, and not afraid to dive head first into action (or a garbage chute).
Today the word came that Carrie Fisher passed away and while Star Wars fans have lost a princess, the world has lost a lot more. Fisher was an actress, a screenwriter, an author, a mental health advocate, and a mother.
May the Force be with you, Carrie.
