I was shocked to learn this week that some of my fellow podcasters and podcast networks have been threatened by a patent troll. Turns out this one holds a patent that they argue includes the "distribution of episodic content" and is demanding a licensing fee or threatening costly litigation. If these types of shenanigans are allowed to go unchecked, a lot of good podcasters are going to be forced to turn off their mics because they simply can't afford to fight.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation is trying to help by mounting a legal challenge to this patent. To do so they need help in two ways. First, financial contributions to pay the ridiculously high costs associated with patent litigation and with assistance in invalidating the patent by showing prior art predates it.
If you do nothing else, please take a few moments to review the information posted by the Electronic Frontier Foundation to familiarize yourself with this important issue. If you can spare a few bucks to contribute, please do. I have.
