My good friend Don McAllister has done it again. We all know Don from his hugely popular ScreenCastsOnline video podcast series where he produces weekly tutorials for Mac and iOS. Recently he's ventured into creating tutorial Apps which have been an invaluable resource for teaching novice and power users alike how to use specific applications. Now, he's launched a monthly magazine which combines his latest video tutorials along with articles tips and tricks written by "some of the leading luminaries in the Apple world." Don has been kind enough to include some of my blog posts as articles in his Magazine and I am honored to be included in such an ambitious project.
I think Don's really on to something with this project. While I love podcasting as a distribution model, there is a large segment of the computing population who don't understand the whole concept of podcasting. However, it seems the App distribution model is really catching on. People are comfortable with the idea of buying an App and using the features of newsstand you can subscribe monthly or yearly and have new issues automatically downloaded to your iPad. This is going to remove the barrier for entry for a lot of new users.
The production quality of the magazine is top notch and it's a joy to sit down with the iPad and browse through the articles and videos. The magazine is free for existing ScreenCastsOnline subscribers and available to new users either as an individual purchase, monthly or yearly subscriptions. Don's produced a video explaining more about the magazine and there's a free trial issue available in Newsstand.
